“Circus Sensible was simply fantastic. They came into our school the day before our Circus show and delivered circus skills workshops to all the children from nursery to Y6. What a fabulous time everyone had! Juggling clubs, walking wheels, plate spinning, stilt walking, flower stick juggling, hoola-hooping, static unicycling – the children had a great time honing their skills. The workshop was brilliant. We had 2 performances on the Saturday. Circus Sensible captivated the audiences with a mixture of silliness & skill. There was lots of cheering and shouting, great engagement with the audience and even the adults were laughing and smiling and thoroughly enjoying themselves. The 2 days really brought the whole school community together and the feedback we have received from the audiences has been beyond positive and everyone had a fantastic time.”

Linda Smallthwaite, Wirral Girl Guides.
“ Circus Sensible provided a FANTASTIC week long contribution to Girlguiding Wirral's Celebrations. Stilt walkers, interactive dance, drumming workshops, circus shows and skills, they provided workshops so the girls could be involved in the opening ceremony and they provided the most fantastic fire show for our closing. They provided the carnival atmosphere they promised. They surpassed our expectations and that of many of our leaders and girls and we could not recommend them highly enough. Can't wait to have another event we can use them for! THANKYOU PapaClive & Crew!!!!!!!!!!!! “

“Circus Sensible were an added attraction to our Centenary Open Day at the Tennis Club and proved to be a great hit with adults and children alike. Obby arrived on time and entertained everyone with his skills and tricks - the children especially loved the hoops, diabolos and juggling balls and all of them went away having learned new circus skills. Thank you for helping to make our 100th birthday celebrations such a success!” Bertram Tennis Club, Wirral

“We hired Circles Sensible for our 70th Platinum Jubilee Celebrations and it was a brilliant day. James was a wonderful performer: he was fantastic with the children making them smile at feel at ease; he performed an enthralling assembly that was a spectacle; taught the children many great skills and provided exceptional entertainment as part of our picnic. We would strongly recommend Circus Sensible”

“ We just wanted to pass on huge thanks to you from the Brownies and Leaders for a brilliant workshop on Saturday evening. Steve did so well – outside with wind and traffic noise to compete with. He had the group transfixed within minutes and despite having had a full-on day already the children were instantly engaged and remained so for 2 hours! He was also an expert at diverting unnecessary attention when things went wrong for one member. All credit for his professionalism. Please tell him that his friend Lola is now growing her hair and her Mum is delighted !!! For many (particularly the stilt-walking leaders!) it was the highlight of the weekend. We have loads of happy faces to prove it on the photos on our FB post.”

The Science of Circus

"Complex tasks such as juggling produce significant changes to the structure of the brain, according to scientists at Oxford University.
In the journal, Nature Neuroscience, the scientists say they saw a 5% increase in white matter - the cabling network of the brain." In brief, learning a new skill such as Juggling can hard wire our brains to work better and faster! Circus skills help develop and improve concentration skills. This is particularly evident in those children with shorter attention spans. When we run Circus skills workshops in schools the teachers are often amazed that one or more children who usually have a problem concentrating are doing better than anyone else in the class! Learning Circus skills also offers great benefits in terms of physical co-ordination and physical fitness. Circus workshops fit very well into the school curriculum under PE and co-ordination development. In fact there are many areas where Circus workshops offer great opportunities for curriculum enrichment.

Activities such as Circus skills have been used with great success as an educational tool, as an aid to learning as well as therapeutically with children at risk and with children with special needs. Autistic children have been observed to respond particularly well to Circus skills in schools. Circus skills are an opportunity for children and adults to discover and develop skills such as Concentration, Information retention, Concept visualisation, hand eye co-ordination and self awareness. These skills can then be used in many other settings including social situations and in conventional educational settings whilst learning the core subjects.
